EDUCATIONAL COMMUNIQUE ON CHOLERA OUTBREAK BY GENERATIONAL THINKERS GHANA, 12TH JUNE 2015.
Fellow countrymen and women, as part of projects of G.T.G is to create awareness of issues that affect Ghanaians.
Generational Thinkers Ghana therefore sees it as a responsibility to inform the general public about the cholera outbreak.
Cholera is an acute infectious disease caused by a bacterium, Vibrio cholerae which results in a painless, watery diarrhea in humans. Some affected individuals have copious amounts of diarrhea and develop dehydration so severe it can lead to death.
CAUSATIVE AGENTS
🔄The main mode is consumption of food and water contaminated by cholera bacterium.
Exposure to poor hygiene conditions is also among important cause of cholera.
SYMPTOMS & SIGNS
🔄 The symptoms and signs of cholera are watery diarrhea that often contains flecks of whitish materials that are about the size of pieces of rice. People may go on to develop
🔺Vomiting
🔺Rapid heart rate
🔺Low blood pressure
🔺Thirst
🔺Muscle cramps
🔺Restlessness
🔺Dry mucous membranes. TREATMENT
🔄 Cholera is an easily treatable disease. Up to 80% of people can be treated successfully through prompt administration of Oral Rehydration Salts. Locally, a well prepared rice water especially the water of it can be used as first aid.
PREVENTION
🔄 For the prevention of cholera,
🔺Drink only water that you have boiled, or you have treated with iodine or chlorine.
🔺Make sure that all vegetables are cooked, and avoid salads.
🔺Avoid undercooked or raw fish or shellfish.
🔺Avoid foods and beverages from street vendors.
🔺Eat only food that have been thoroughly cooked and are still hot, or fruit that you have peeled yourself. 👍A SIMPLE RULE OF THUMB IS : "BOIL IT, COOK IT, PEEL IT, OR FORGET IT."
