Kwahu South DCE calls for ceasefire

Mr. Joseph Omari, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kwahu South Assembly in the Eastern Region has urged the rank and file of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the region to create space for peace and unity and work together as a team to win the impending 2016 elections.

He said the NDC risks losing the 2016 elections, if steps are not taken to address the recent acrimony within the party in the region.

Consequently, he has called on all party faithful to desist from championing any perceived individual interest which could negatively affect the collective interest of the party before, during and after the 2016 general elections.

Hon. Omari’s clarion call come on the heels of a misunderstanding that ensued between some party sympathizers and some cross-section of Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) during a meeting at the residency of the Eastern Regional Minister last Thursday.

The meeting which was attended by the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Antwi Bosiako-Sekyere, Deputy Regional Minister Hon. Mavis Ama Frimpong and some Regional Executives of the NDC party was aimed at addressing complaints lodged against some (MDCEs) in the Eastern Region by constituency executives of the ruling party.

Brytfmonline.com gathered that, the DCE for Atiwa Assembly Hon. Emmanuel Atta Twum was choked with words and later fell unconscious when he attempted to answer series of allegation levelled against him by some NDC party members from his area.

Hon. Twum who was later rushed to the Koforidua Government Hospital, treated and discharged nearly met his untimely death when he took turn to answer the allegations levelled at him during the meeting.

Expressing his frustration following the collapsed of his colleague DCE, it was alleged that, Hon. Joseph Omari threatened to ‘gun’ down those around who might have caused the DCE to collapse, but the DCE has since denied ever saying such a thing as reported in some section of the media.

But Hon. Omari instead called on them during the meeting to exercise restraints with MDCEs and find lasting solutions to any form of problems making waves among them.

Some regional, constituency and few supporters of the party who were at the meeting did not take kindly of an appeal made by the Kwahu South DCE calling on members to be easy-going on MDCEs in the region.

This harmless call from the Kwahu South DCE nearly marred the meeting as angry party executives verbally attacked him but the Kwahu South DCE still insist that patience, peace and unity is the key to the party’s stay in power come 2016.

Meanwhile, according to the Regional Chairman of the party, Mr. Tawiah Boateng, Mr. Omari together with the Regional Minister and his Deputy as well as the Regional Executives of the Party who were present at the meeting left to check on the Atiwa DCE who has early on taken to the Regional Hospital. He said the Kwahu South DCE never engaged in any scuffle with anybody making the party members from Atiwa lynching him to death as reported in some cross-section of the media.

UHAS Suicide Lecturer Buried

The Late Winfred Korku Ametefe

Family members, friends, students and fellow lecturers of Winfred Korku Ametefe are still at a lost as to why their beloved took his own life.

Winfred Korku Ametefe, a lecturer of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), is alleged to have committed suicide about a week ago at his residence at VORADEP Village in Ho.

Several attempts by the press to solicit some answers from close relations have proved futile, as all of them have declined to comment on the matter.

That notwithstanding, sources close to the family have confirmed that the mortal remains of Winfred were interred last Saturday at the Ho public cemetery.

A source said according to custom, a person who commits suicide is not given a befitting burial and his body is not laid in state. To this end, the body of Winfred was kept in the morgue of the Volta Regional Hospital, while a brief and solemn burial service was held in his honour at the Elorm Parish of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Ho Bankoe.

The body was then transported straight from the morgue to the cemetery. This was followed by a brief reception at the premises of UHAS, where Winfred was a lecturer before his unfortunate death on 19th July, 2015.

Winfred Ametefe allegedly committed suicide in his official residence that fateful day. But this was discovered two days later, after he went missing.

His neighbours who discovered his dead body alerted the police, who conveyed the body to the regional hospital morgue. The police say they are still investigating the case but have released the body for burial after exhausting their findings on the body.
